Global Studies Minor The Global Studies minor offers students a multidisciplinary curriculum in the humanities and social sciences through which they can explore the complex and multifaceted interconnections that characterize the contemporary world. Merit-based scholarships from the UCLA International Institute are available for several outstanding UCLA Global Studies majors or minors participating on a Global Studies summer program. Global Studies majors/minors must have a 3.50 GPA overall for their academic studies at UCLA. If admitted, students must complete all remaining preparatory courses (including Global Studies 1) with a B grade or better in their ﬁrst quarter at UCLA. Students must also submit a supplemental application to the department that fall quarter. Students are strongly encouraged to complete at least one year of language prior to matriculation.

The Global Studies major is a designated capstone major. As students progress through the major, they move from a set of broad themes, theories, and perspectives to a more specialized focus about which they develop a specific research expertise and write a thesis.

They major in mechanical engineering and take playwriting courses. They take acting classes and study two languages.

I'm a freshman here at UCLA and when I applied, I was set on majoring in IDS. I changed to Global Studies because I wanted to focus on both the developed and developing world and globalization. UCLA students cannot change majors to or add a double major in Global Jazz Studies at any other time or by any other process other than the annual admissions cycle. Admission is contingent not only on completing the same application and audition process outlined for all first year or transfer applicants to the School of Music, but also by demonstrating that the degree can be completed within GLOBAL AFFAIRS. Internship placements geared toward UCLA undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Global Health, Global Studies, International and Area Studies, and International and Development Studies.
